Relocating to Barrington Illinois from Another Country – Electrical Items You’ll Need To Replace

There are many families that never move from town to town let alone state to state or country to country. If you are relocating to Barrington Illinois from another country you’ll face some expense challenges in regard to electrical items.

PlugMy family relocated to Barrington Illinois in 1996 as part of a job transfer with my husbands employer. Electricity in this country is typically 110 volts whereas in the UK it is 220 volts. Here your plugs are two pronged, in the UK they are 3 pronged and much sturdier. So non of our electrical items were going to work here. Think about these items:

Computers
Printers
Hair Dyers
Tools-Drills-Saws-Screwdrivers etc.
Fridge*
Washer*
Dryer*
*(I mention these because typically in the UK you take these items with you when you move.)
Kettle
Coffee Maker
Other Small Kitchen Appliances
Vacuum cleaner
Telephone

And these are just the items that are coming to mind as I write. All of these UK electrical items are pretty much useless here. So when we relocated to Barrington Illinois we had to go on a shopping spree. Where are you coming from? Will your electrical items operate here? If not what are you going to do with them? We sold many of our items and gave a lot to family members but some items had to be kept until the last minute so we ended up giving those to charity.
